Strong nonlinear vibration analysis of axially moving strings

The nonlinear vibration of axially moving strings is investigated. The governing equation of the string is derived from the Newton's Second Law and Kelvin constitutive relationship. Based on 1-term Galerkin's truncation, the governing equation is reduced to an ordinary differential equation. Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is applied to obtain the approximate analytical solutions of the string with both weak and strong nonlinearity. It is shown that the HPM solutions are in good agreement with numerical results.
