There is a major disadvantage in the widely used modified Agrawal model to evaluate the overvoltages on the overhead transmission lines, i.e., one has to carry out a complete calculation for all the overvoltages on all the lines in the system even if one is only interested in the overvoltages on a certain line of the multi-lines system. In the present paper, we propose a decoupling method to overcome this demerit of the modified Agrawal model. The proposed method removes the intercoupling effects of lines by introducing an equivalent impedance in the field-to-transmission line coupling equations. Thus the overvoltages of one certain line can be evaluated independently in the multi-lines system. It is shown by examples that the proposed method is valid and efficient when comparing with the modified Agrawal method.
