A technique of Strapdown INS gyrocompassing using two prelaunch angular positions of a spacecraft, at first horizontal and then vertical, is considered. The bias of the angular rate sensor, having the input axis vertical in the first orientation, is calibrated. In the second orientation this ARS is used to determine the azimuth angle. The analytical alignment algorithm is chosen according to the criterion of the minimal drift misalignment angles between the axes of calculated and reference frames. The technique permits to improve gyrocompassing accuracy by 1-2 orders. The simulation results are given.
