Wet air has been the cause of many preventable air bearing failures and by describing our in-house system we hope to spare other users this kind of trouble. Internal corrosion (Fig 1) is an unnecessary type of repair, and the most expensive, especially since it often involves multiple units. Repairing a rusty spindle can cost as much as 2/3 the price of a new spindle so a reliable air system is cost-effective.
