Semantic-skip is defined as a reading behavior in which the eyes fixate on a word long enough for it to be processed, yet it does not appear in the resulting semantic representation of reading. This is one of the main situations where previous models of semantic construction during reading have failed to produce good predictions. In this paper we present an enhanced model for predicting the semantic representations constructed during reading based on eye-movement data and text analysis. Our model incorporates part-of-speech and semantic significance to determine the importance of a word in a specific context, and based on that and other linguistic factors determines if the word is present in the resulting semantic network or not. We validate our enhanced model with an existing dataset from a previous model for comparison, where our model has provided better predictions in all four cases of reading behavior.
