摘要

Reducing cell death after transplant is a primary objective of hydrogel encapsulation. Furthermore, recovery of blood flow to the ischemic cortex is critical for functional recovery after stroke and for the long-term survival of transplanted cells. Neovascularization and collateral establishment are prognostic of recovery. Induction of angio- and arteriogenesis are among the major regenerative mechanisms of transplanted stem cells. iPSC-NPCs encapsulation with the sulfated CS-GAG hydrogel has a synergistic effect on microvessel recruitment to the infarcted stroke core. Future studies will clarify the improved long-term functional recovery made possible by enhanced vascularity and neurogenesis, and the mechanisms guiding these preliminary findings.
