SCE-4 produced by sugarcane by-products has various physiological functions and exhibited the effect of promoting the intestinal tract function and immunomodulatory activity. We have investigated that isolation and characterization of Peyer's patch-immunomodulating polysaccharides from SCE-4. As a result, we revealed the main active component in SCE-4 is a novel immunomodulating polysaccharide which has the structures with "heteroglycan" and "alpha-glucan". Especially, we reported first case of this alpha-1,6-glucan structure having immunomodulating polysaccharide. In addition, from the result of oral administration of the sugarcane polysaccharide, this was confirmed the sugarcane polysaccharide increases the IL-5 production, the leukocytes growth and the granulocytic differentiation.
