This contribution discusses probable influences of rotating wind turbines on the bearing error of the VHF omnidirectional radio range which is an important navigation system. Such disturbances are as old as this navigation system itself, but has become a timely topic in Germany in the frame of its new renewable energy strategy. As this is a very complicated scattering scenario which is not fully understood there are several approaches to evaluate probable disturbances due to wind farms. These are analytical expressions, numerical techniques and measurements both in a real environment and in a scaled setup. This contribution gives an overview of respective shortcomings and advantages of mentioned methodologies.
