Open Learner Models mostly employ positional-based negotiation mechanisms which confine the role of negotiation as a "problem-solving" technique. Negotiation provides an excellent opportunity to learn and understand why a learner holds a certain belief and why these beliefs contradict with that of the system. This study aims at proposing a new paradigm of learning that uses negotiation coupled targeted responses to motivate a learner and enhance their metacognitive skills along with their cognitive skills.
