摘要

This paper describes an experience of changing practices in the activities designed to the prospective and first year students in a career in Information Engineering Systems. Vacancies in industry have gone on increasing. We focused on two aspects: motivate more students to enter, and improve retention of students. Professors from our faculty have found that labs on line, are powerful strategies to increase recruiting and retention. Labs online (like ProjectEuler.net) are available freely. The process is oriented to high school and university students. The key moment is a programming contest ("TecnoMate") where compete students from both levels. The experience began in 2012. The number of participants has been increasing every year, with more than a hundred the last year. Prospectives who participated being in high school, started the university, eager to raise their level. This event got recognition from the provincial government and support of local industry.
