1. Hybrid electric vehicle batteries are the fastest growing market segment of the total xEV market, with about 10 million HEVs and 3 millon EV/PHEVs, annual production by 2020 2. The market for renewable grid storage will reach 44 GWh by 2020, of which 24% will be occupied by li-ion batteries, but the majority of 76%, by storage systems other than Li-ion (lead-acid, NiMH, redox-flow, Na/NiCI2, Na/S, compressed air, etc.) 3. Our value chain analysis reveals that manufacturing costs of Li-ion batteries for ESS applications will come down to approx. 260 USD per kWh, by 2020 4. Lower cost combined with excellent cycle and calendar life makes Li-ion batteries very well suited for solar based residential and commercial energy storage systems, as well as automotive and industrial applications.
