Design and performance analysis of L-shaped patch antenna array

This paper presents the design of an L shaped array of microstrip patch antenna for S-band applications. The array of four by four and eight by eight microstrip patch with microstrip line feeding based on quarter wave impedance matching technique was designed and simulated using High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS) software. The simulation result of the array was compared by theoretical results computed using MATLAB which shows the good agreement between the simulation and theoretical result. Then the performance of the L-shaped patch array was compared with the existing arrays in terms of directivity and gain. The result shows the better performance than the existing patch antenna arrays.
