Several past studies have devoted in exploring air travellers' willingness-to-compensate their aviation carbon emissions or willingness-to-pay for the voluntary carbon offsetting program. Those studies all concluded that it is an important issue to educate air travellers to know the negative impacts of aviation on environment. However, no specific ways of how to educate air travellers the environmental knowledge of aviation were suggested by those studies. Air travellers, therefore, also hardly receive any facts about their carbon emissions through airlines' official websites. This study investigates the effects of air travellers' environmental knowledge on their attitudes toward carbon offsetting and behavioural intentions to participate in the voluntary offsetting program. This study proposed two types of communication media and measure their effects on delivering the knowledge about environmental impacts of aviation. Then the attitudes of travellers toward the VCO program and willingness to participate in the VCO program or adjust the travel behaviour were measured. Finally, the relationships between travellers' knowledge and their attitudes and willingness to participate the VCO program or adjust travel behaviour are investigated. The implications of this study are not only for academic research to verify the relationships among knowledge-attitude-behaviour (intention) but also for airline industry to have a better way of communication about aviation emissions and put more emphases on environmental education to air travellers.
