This paper has detailed the design of a new lightweight piston for X3. Three new driver operating conditions have been developed based on 2, 3, and 4 mm thick primary diaphragms, and 100% Ar driver gas. Blanked-off testing has been performed for the 2 mm condition; the remaining blanked-off tests will be conducted later in 2013 when the facility is once more available. These tests will be followed by full diaphragm rupturing tests, which will complete the current commissioning program.
