A quantitative multi-color laser absorption diagnostics has been developed and validated for optimal CH_2O sensing and combined CH_3CHO/CH_2O detection. Aldehyde cross-sections at these colors were measured behind reflected shock waves over a wide span of temperatures and pressures. Application of these diagnostics was demonstrated in shock tube pyrolysis experiments of 1,3,5-trioxane. Further shock tube experiments are planned to apply these diagnostics schemes to the investigation of the pyrolysis and oxidation of alcohols, ethers and biodiesel fuel surrogates.
