Optimal integration of solar distributed generations in distribution network using SPEA2

Over the last decades, Renewable energy sources are widely applied in distribution networks due to the increased demand for the electrical energy. The improper placement and sizing of renewable energy based DGs (distributed generations) may increase the losses in the network and also lead to voltage collapse in severe cases. This paper treats the problem of optimal sitting and sizing of solar photovoltaic DGs in distribution network using the evolutionary technique SPEA2 (Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm 2). The objective is to minimize the active power loss and the annual operation cost within the framework of system operational and security constraints in distribution systems. The optimization problem is applied on IEEE 33 bus distribution network. The obtained results prove the efficiency of the proposed technique in finding the optimal location and sizing of solar DGs.
