This paper presents a comparative study of different high-speed 36-slots/4poles machines for turbogenerator application based on electromagnetic and mechanical finite-element analysis (FEA). The studied machines have the same stator with distributed winding and different rotor structures. The electromagnetic performances are analyzed and compared, as well as the mechanical stress in the rotors. The selected machine with the best rotor structure has been analyzed. Furthermore, thermal analysis of the chosen machine has been performed considering transient and steady-state operating points. The maximum temperature increase is located in the slots but it remains acceptable for a safe operation.
