Exponential Stability of Switched Positive Linear Systems without Stable Subsystems

In this paper, exponential stability of switched positive linear systems (SPLSs) composed of all unstable modes is first investigated. Through minimum dwell time and fast average dwell time (ADT) approach, sufficient conditions of exponential stability of SPLSs without stable subsystems are derived. The main idea is to utilize the decrement of energy functions caused by switching to compensate the increment caused by unstable modes. Through a time-schedule multiple linear copositive Lyapunov function (MLCLF) constructed in continuous-time contexts, computable sufficient conditions of exponential stability are presented in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). It is shown that the switching signals which can exponentially stabilize the SPLSs are required to be confined by minimum dwell time and maximum fast ADT. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the results.
