Comparative investigation of bus-clamping PTC strategies for IM drives

This paper presents a comparative investigation of four predictive torque control (PTC) strategies for two-level three-phase inverter fed induction motor drives. Among the considered PTC strategies, three novel PTC schemes based on bus-clamping techniques are developed. The proposed bus-clamping PTC (BC-PTC) schemes are founded on the basis of the clamping of each stator phase during 60°-interval in every half-cycle of the stator quantities. The performance of the four considered PTC strategies are evaluated through several simulation results at steady-state operation, with emphasis on various comparison criteria, such as: stator phase voltage and current waveforms, stator flux ripple, electromagnetic torque ripple, average total harmonic distortion, average switching frequency, average switching loss factor, and average quality factor. The simulation results reveal that the proposed BC-PTC schemes are much more efficient in terms of torque ripple, switching frequency, and switching power losses over the entire range of the stator frequency.
