Campus Parking Characteristics Analysis: A Case Study of Tongji University Siping Campus

Universities keep a close connection with society, incurring an increasing frequency of vehicle parking on campuses. Tongji University, located in the vicinity of Wujiao Square, which is one of the main CBDs of Shanghai, attracts numerous vehicles commuting or temporarily visiting. With the number of licenses released by the university authority mounting, the parking demand has already spilled over, which leads to severe violation behaviors on parking regulations. The analysis of campus parking characteristics is the prerequisite for proposing parking strategies. Through interpreting field observation data and intelligent vehicle plate detection system data at all university entrances, the research has a sophisticated analysis on the parking characteristics of Siping Campus. Analysis implied the imbalance of campus parking supply and demand, uneven distribution of parking, the rate of high illegally parking, and the presence of a stable peak of weekday parking time, and the amount of corresponding parking.
