This paper presents the implementation of an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based algorithm for the control of an indirect vector-controlled induction motor (IVCIM) drive for different modes of operation. Backpropagation algorithm is used for the training of ANN and performance of the drive is analysed through simulation studies and through real time implementation using DS-1104, on a 3HP induction motor (IM) drive. The operation of the drive under forward motoring, speed reversal and breaking modes are demonstrated through simulation and experimental studies. A comparative study of ANN and conventional PI controller under different operating conditions, based on simulation results and experimental outcomes is carried out and the dynamic behaviour of the IVCIM is analysed.
