Caulerpa lentillifera belongs to Caulerpa genus, which is commonly found in tropical and subtropical water. The biggest constituent of seaweed is polysaccharide that has some biological activities as a potential medicine. Therefore, this research aimed to extract and evaluate the antioxidant activity from C. lentillifera polysaccharide. The extraction was carried out by water extraction method. First, the sample was added with ethanol and soaked overnight at room temperature. On the following day, aquades were added, and it was put in a water bath at 75oC for three hours. After that, ethanol was added to precipitate the crude extract. The extract was purified using a column with DEAE-Sepharose to obtain the purified extract. Both crude and purified extracts were characterized by analyzing the total carbohydrate and sulfate using spectrophotometer, the functional group using FT-IR spectroscopy, sugar component using HPLC, and the antioxidant activity using FRAP method. The result shows that the polysaccharide crude extract gives higher antioxidant activity than the purified extract.
