This paper presents a novel method of preserving edges in radiographic images. On applying noise removal algorithm the edges may get blurred and hence there is a need of suitable edge preserving algorithm for preserving edges. The edges appeared to be fuzzy due to noise present in the radiographic image which tends to wrong human interpretation and false detection in the performance of computer-aided diagnosis systems. This paper discusses about the two edge preserving filter. Radiographic image is subjected to two edge preserving filter such as modified Local Edge Preserving filter (LEP) and Adaptive Weighted Mean Filter (AWMF). The performance of these filters is evaluated using the image quality parameters such as Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Image Quality Index (IQI). The Proposed LEP filter give better performance in the Radiographic image considered.
