Analysis of Market to Market Interconnection Points during Overgeneration Scenario in a Market

In this paper, the effect of the market to market (M2M) interconnection points have been analyzed. With the higher penetrations of renewable energies into the electricity grid, a market could encounter overgeneration scenarios during the peak hour of availability and low demand i.e. PVs’ peak in midday. This work has compared three types of interconnection in M2M power exchanges; i) Identified PV units to Identified Load buses, (ii) Fictitious bus to Slack bus, and (iii) Fictitious bus to Fictitious Bus. Modified IEEE-9 and IEEE-5 bus systems have been used in the M2M interconnections. Furthermore, the solutions of optimal power flows (OPF) have been obtained using a primal-dual based interior-point method. Moreover, the OPF is based on Karush-Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions. The obtained results show that the direct interconnections of identified PV units to Identified Load buses have provided a better economy for the M2M interconnections.
