摘要

This paper presents an overview of the Koreasat 3 communications system. ^Korea Telecom plans to launch Koreasat 3, the third communications satellite of the Republic of Korea, in August 1999. ^Koreasat 1 and Koreasat 2 were launched in August 1995 and January 1996, respectively, and have been operating successfully by Korea Telecom. ^The Koreasat 3 is a dual-purpose satellite for Direct Broadcasting Services (DBS) and Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) covering the Republic of Korea and the Asia-Pacific region. ^The primary mission of the Koreasat 3 is to provide continuous DBS and FSS services with an augmentation of Ka-band services and to replace the Koreasat 1, whose maneuver life has been reduced to five years because of the launch anomaly. ^(Author)
