This project utilized object-oriented programming in Lingo and the Director authoring environment to bring together video, audio, text, and graphics in an instructional CD-ROM program presenting the classical tabla traditions of South Asia. Working in a highly collaborative framework in which the subjects were partners as well as informants, the developers were able to use interactive media to reflect the pedagogic structure, mnemonic techniques, historical development, and performance practices of the oral traditions being represented.
