Regional Hydrogeological, Hydrogeochemical Characteristics of Beishan Area: The Potential Area of China's High Level Radioactive Waste Repository in Gansu Province, China
Beishan district, the important potential site for China's high level radioactive waste repository, is located in Gansu Province, northwestern China. The regional hydrogeological investigations and research were conducted in Baishan area in last several years. The key-points were focused on the characteristics of water-bearing formation, groundwater How field, hydrogeochemistry, and groundwater isotopes. Groundwater system in Betehan region can be classified into three units: upland rocky fracture unit, valley and depression pore-fracture unit, and basin pore-fracture unit. Water content mainly depends on lithology, topography, fissure and fault Chemically, groundwater in Beishan region is neutral to slightly alkaline with high dissolved solids. Sodium is the dominant cation. In terms of anions, the groundwater is mainly of chloride sulfate and sulfate chloride types.
