Lab-scale experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of HRT and SRT on the removal potenfial and fate of linear alkylbenzene sulphonate(LAS)in an anaerobic-anoxic-aerobic(AAA)activated sludge wastewater treatment system.In the range from 5 to 14 hours.HRT had no significant effect on LAS removal.However.Less LAS was accumulated in the waste sludge with longer HRT.LAS removal efficiencies were above 99%when SRT increased from 10 to 25 days.Higher LAS degradation emciency was achieved when SRT became longer.The optimal HRT and SRT fbr both nutrients(nitrogen and phosphorus)and LAS removal were 8 h and 15 d,respectively.At these optimal HRT and SRT,among the totally removed LAS.About 94.15%was degraded by activated sludge process;5.47%accumulated in the system:0.25%was released in the effluent and 0.13%remained in the waste sludge.The kinetic model formulated in this paper could well forecast the quality of the effluent from anaerobic tank,anoxic tank.Aerobic tank and the final effluenL The relative error of the model was less than 8%.
