Simulation and Analysis on Safe Operation of Hot Waxy Crude Oil Pipeline at Low Flow Rate

The waxy crude oil, with high freezing point and high viscosity in domestic oil field, is transported through heating system. If the pipeline flow is lower than the critical safe flow rate on the pipeline operation characteristic curve, then the operation of heat oil pipeline system would come into "the unsteady operating area", and even more rigorous accident that the waxy pipe coagulated would happen. Considering three factors were adjustable factor, nature factor and extreme weather such as rainstorm and cold wave, this study simulated numerically the pipeline operation characteristics to ascartain the critical safe flow rate. Through simulating a running pipeline which transported the Zhongyuan oil, the critical safe flow rate is mostly affected by the natural soil temperature around the buried pipe, overall heat transfer coefficient and wax deposit thickness in the crude pipe. Therefore, while operate the low flow waxy pipeline, we should watch out for the running condition, simulate periodically the safe characteristics, especially in the different seasons and the extreme weather, calculate the critical safe flow rate, for running in the steady operating area and deerensing or avoiding the serious coagulated accident.
