SHM (Structural Health Monitoring) system can play crucial role in the sustainability ofinfrastructures. The system can precisely check a structure for maintaining desired health that eventuallyleads to increased service life. Increased service life and better maintenance brings additional benefit atthe cost of instrumentation and monitoring of SHM system. SHM system is a promising technology andhas a bright future in the perspective of financial return. From the environmental perspective, it preservesnatural resources by reducing the rate of consumption due to prolonged service life and the reduced rateof consumption of resources means the reduced rate of waste generation. Reduced waste generationshifts negative (detrimental) environmental impacts to positive (beneficial) sides. SHM system can assistthe use of new materials or techniques, provides scheduling flexibility, effective maintenance and betterresource allocation.
