Popularity of the remotely accessed cameras in construction industry has increasedsignificantly in the last few years in North America. Construction Monitoring and Visualization Centre(CMVC) is a novel concept developed and recently launched by the University of Calgary’s productivityresearch team. The purpose of CMVC is to remotely monitor construction sites to gain extensive accessto data for research purposes. CMVC has the capability to collect and archive audio and video datathrough an automated system. The CMVC comprises of state-of-the-art high resolution remotelyaccessible cameras, high performance video servers with data archiving facility and redundancy. TheCMVC serves as the nerve centre for current research areas such as virtual supervision, automatedtracking, and productivity monitoring. The challenges and difficulties faced by the research team inplanning and implementing the CMVC stage are discussed in this paper.
