Major shipbuilding companies are well aware that the seamless transition from detail to production design is paramount to fully realize the goal of significantly increased efficiency and productivity. In this line, there has been a lot of trial and error to work out the best design and production practices throughout the implementation of well-known shipbuilding computer systems, usually customized by in-house applications or third-party developments. However, many limitations have been found in the use of these solutions, and the main requirement remains unsatisfied: the seamless process is still a desire among shipbuilders. This paper explains how Foran can help Korean shipbuilders make their ideal work. Different in its own way, based on a well engineered development approach, mature technological foundations and a solid single database frame, Sener's system integrates smoothly and flexibly basic calculations, progressive multidisciplinary modelling, class approval drawings, interface with FEM analysis and generation of accurate production information.
