Occupational stressors, turnover intention and the mediating influence of job satisfaction: Evidence from China

This paper focuses on the relationship between occupational stressors and job satisfaction, and turnover intention among Chinese knowledge workers. A sample of 1670 employees was investigated by Occupational Stress Scale (OSS), Turnover Intention Scale (TIS) and Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) in this research. The author obtained six dimensionalities of occupational stressors which were work overload, co-workers, physical conditions, role conflict/ambiguity, career development barriers and work family conflict. In addition, results indicated that only three types of stressors and turnover intention were significantly related; and their relationship was mediated by job satisfaction. The results suggest that stressors from work environment should lead low satisfaction and high turnover intention in modern working life, so more attention should be paid to the field of stress management.
