The Mid-resolution InfRAreD Astronomical Spectrograph (MIRADAS, a near-infrared multi-object echellespectrograph operating at spectral resolution R=20,000 over the 1-2.5μm bandpass) was selected in 2010 by the GranTelescopio Canarias (GTC) partnership as the next-generation near-infrared spectrograph for the world's largestoptical/infrared telescope, and is being developed by an international consortium. The MIRADAS consortium includesthe University of Florida, Universidad de Barcelona, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Instituto de Astrofísica deCanarias, Institut de Física d'Altes Energies, Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya and Universidad NacionalAutónoma de México. This paper shows an overview of the MIRADAS control software, which follows the standardsdefined by the telescope to permit the integration of this software on the GTC Control System (GCS). The MIRADASControl System is based on a distributed architecture according to a component model where every subsystem is selfcontained.The GCS is a distributed environment written in object oriented C++, which runs components in differentcomputers, using CORBA middleware for communications. Each MIRADAS observing mode, including engineering,monitoring and calibration modes, will have its own predefined sequence, which are executed in the GCS Sequencer.These sequences will have the ability of communicating with other telescope subsystems.© (2012) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
