In this paper is presented the development of a diagnosis system applied to high voltage (HV) energized grounding grids, based on the monitoring of the substation surface voltage potentials, to identify the localization of possible imperfections or defects (e.g. zones of high ohmic resistance, corrosion, discontinuity) in the grounding grid. It was developed an embedded electronic system capable to measure and process several surface voltages distributed throughout the grounding grid. After the data processing using the finite difference method, the system presents the grounding grid conditions using 2D graphs and numerical rapports. The analysis was performed based on the industrial voltage frequency
