This paper describes the response and challenges to increases in Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) freight demand throughout North Dakota and Minnesota. Siding and yard capacity increases at strategic locations along the CP network were designed, permitted, and constructed, in order to accommodate these demands. Seasonal constraints, weather, in service date time limitations, and permitting presented significant challenges to the successful execution of design, construction and, ultimately, track capacity expansion for this Class Ⅰ Railroad. The following locations were designed, permitted and constructed (2011-2012):
