摘要

An antimicrobial finish's effectiveness at prohibiting the development of unwanted odors is typically evaluated through the use of an odor panel, where multiple human subjects rate their perception of the odor. A more objective approach to determining the effectiveness of the finish is to measure the amounts of odorous compounds present on treated and untreated materials. The goal of this research is to develop a correlation between the subjective ratings of footwear odor intensity and the objective measurements of the amounts of common odorous compounds that are present. This correlation will indicate whether a decrease in the amount of specific odorous compounds relates to a significant perceivable decrease in the odor intensity.
