摘要

Corrosion resistance of sintered NdFeB magnets is an important factor which determines the application of these materials. The widening range of applications in severe environments is the most challenging task to improve the corrosion resistance of sintered NdFeB magnets. On the other hand, an improved corrosion resistance of NdFeB magnets will ease end-user processing (e.g. coating) and will lead to cost reduction. The focus of the present study is to understand the corrosion mechanism and to standardize the test technique of the corrosion for NdFeB magnets. Following four parameters that have impacts to the corrosion characteristics of sintered NdFeB magnets have been studied: 1) methods used to prepare the magnet surface for corrosion test, 2) microstructure of magnet surface, 3) magnet chemistry with emphasis on total rare earth content, and 4) sintering and heat treatments.
