Polarization Insensitive Tunable Dual-Band Absorber

For C-band and X-band applications a tunable dual-band microwave absorber has been described in this paper. The design consists of a cross metallic design connected via the varactor diodes to parts of the circular ring. This metallic pattern has been designed on top of a lossy dielectric substrate. The backside, i.e. ground plane is fully laminated with metal which ensures zero transmission. The frequency of absorption can be regulated along wide frequency range. This can be achieved by controlling the varactor diode's reverse voltage. The innovation of the proposed dual-band tunable absorber is that it has four-fold symmetry and therefore it shows polarization-insensitive behaviour. Hence unlike the previously mentioned absorbers that show tunable behavior but don't have polarization insensitive property, it can be used for practical applications. This dual-band tunable absorber can be used in functional applications because it has outstanding absorption properties and also has a clear structure.
