Thirty younger architects were interviewed about social commentaryand its criticism, and it was compared with earlier generationten architects whose articles were analyzed through publications.It was clear that the word society itself differs from onearchitect to another and from one period to another. It was noticedthat there was a general resistance by the new generation of architectsto take a clear stance with society, especially when it comesto expressing their own thoughts and opinions. The new generationalso seems to focus on the details of architecture insteadof the problems that the society faces or broadens architecturaldiscourses such as modernism and consumerism. However, thenew generation of architects tend to deal with society in moreconcrete, less metaphorical terms when compared with the earliergeneration. On the other hand, the earlier generation of architectsenvision explicitly societal models, and are expressive regardingtheir role as architects within society.
