The Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV} was developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) under the technical direction of the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), Huntsville, Alabama. The LRV or Rover was the first manned surface vehicle to be used in lunar exploration. It was designed to transport two astronauts with their life support equipment; scientific apparatus and geologic tools; lunar soil and rock samples; and television, movie, and still cameras, along geological traverses covering regions that have embraced a much greater surface area than that explored and sampled during previous manned and unmanned lunar surface missions.
