The Quantitative Sentinel (QS) is an interactive, computerized database system designed for use in critical patient care environments. It has been in active use in a trauma institute for over 5 years. A study was done in 1982 to measure the extent of user satisfaction with this system. The study was done, in part, because major hardware changes were planned for the next year in order to ensure near-constant access to vital patient data. At the time of the study, the QS was supported by one CPU and because constant access to the system could not be guaranteed, full use of the QS was not possible. A questionnaire was developed to measure clinical users' satisfaction with the system as it was then configured. Questionnaires were distributed to all clinical staff registered with the QS at the time of the study. Clinical staff included physicians, nurses, technicians, and therapists. 95 completed forms were returned. Within a possible range of 26 (low satisfaction) to 130 (big), the overall satisfaction score was 93.21. There was little difference among staff groups.
