摘要

In asymptotic description of diffraction of EM waves scattered by tight bodies with edges, one has to appeal to the edge and corner catastrophes theory [1]. It enables to represent the process of diffraction by screens with irregular edges as a superposition of elementary diffraction acts and to express the diffraction field in each act in the form of fast oscillatory integrals - the special functions of wave catastrophes (SWC). The certain type of integral corresponds to definite type of edge or corner catastrophe. In turn the type of catastrophe is uniquely defined by the focusing type of primary field falling upon the target and by the focusing type of secondary fieldes emited by the edges of the target. In homogeneous medium the focusing type of primary field is determined by the behaviour of the wave front and the focusing type of edge wave in addition depends on the curvature of edge. In this case the corner points or the points of edge smoothness disturbance generate divergent waves. There is more complicated situation in inhomogeneous medium, namely the rays congruences associated with corner point may have caustics.
