摘要

An agricultural vehicle can overturn when it encounters a bump or pot-hole, especially if the land is sloping. The response of the vehicle is expected to depend on the vehicle and operating parameters, and the obstacle shape and size. A special purpose rig which constrains a small agricultural trailer to move about a single roll axis, has been used to observe the response when a wedge shaped obstacle is driven under one wheel. The response has also been modelled on a computer using the dynamic simulation package, DADS. Good agreement has been found between measured and predicted results on level ground, over a range of static and dynamic operating parameters. Based on these results, for a particular type of vehicle and a particular shape of obstacle, the variation in overturning slope with operating speed has been predicted. The investigation is being extended to include a range of obstacle shapes.
