摘要

Two basic approaches,called pairwise and sliding techniques,are widely used for nesting of irregular shapes using computers,and htey are adopted individually and independently.The former mainly concentrates on providing in interactive computation speed-at the expense of accuracy.The latter tends to find the best solutin through an exhaustive search-making it unsuitable for interactive purposes.The current work involved the developemtn of a new heuristic search technique that provides optimal or near-optimal solution at interactive speeds.In addition,other essential considerations for an optimal nesting,such as automatic and optimized clearance generation,grouping of clusters,etc.,are also dealt in this ppaer.A computer program has been developed to handle the above issues automatically,and its effectiveness is demonstrated with the help of some typical patterns.
