This paper addresses the critiques made in recent years towards labor standards. While doing so it explains a basic concept that every IE should know. What are engineered labor standards and what can be gained by having them? The major benefits of engineered labor standards are outlined and a simple method of obtaining sustainable results from your work measurement program is described. In today's global markets, it is merely a politically correct fantasy to believe that we can compete without engineered labor standards.
