A Knudsen effusion cell mass spectrometric technique was used to study both neutral and charged species that are in equilibrium in saturated vapor over Sm, Yb, Dy, Ho, and Lu chlorides. For the first time the molecular and ionic clusters were observed for all the trichlorides. No molecular associates were observed in the vapors over Sm and Yb dichlorides; in each case the vapor is comprised of LnCl_2 molecules. The temperature dependencies of partial vapor pressures of neutral constituents were measured and the enthalpies of sublimation of monomers and polymers were obtained using the Second and Third laws of Thermodynamics. The formation enthalpies of gaseous molecules and ions were calculated.
