IN 1996, three oil spills in the New England region of the UNited States resulted in fisheries closures or estrictions. Although the three closures were similar in that htey effected lobster fisheries, the produdcts spilled and physical conditions were different. Ad hoc policies developed by three different states concerning fisheries closure and repoening also differed. Economic impacts to the fishing, shipping, and insurface industries also varied as a result of these policies and the specifics of the incident. The responsible party in the T/B NORTH CAPE incident sampled 1,875 animaos, conducted 689 EPA 8270 GC/MS analyses and performed over 16, 133 organoleptic tests at a cost of over USD
