In addition to the above efforts, recent announcements of research opportunities have resulted in numerous requests for funding in Fiscl Year 1997. Some of the successful proposals to be funded this year will be discussed. Another facet of the MMS research program is in the area of spill prevention. The Safety and Pollution Prevention Program supports research into pipeline leak detection, oil well blowout prevention ad control, and the role of human factors in offshore accidents.
