Experimental studies of a gas-filled free-electron laser pumped by a relativistic backward-wave oscillator without magnetic field were performed. Radiation power from FEL and BWO both were observed for argon pressure between 2.3 mTorr to 15 mTorr, with maximum power at 5.3 mTorr. Theoretical studies of the radiation mechanism are underway.
